Japanese D1GP Champion Yokoi confirms entry to International Drifting Cup
We are excited to announce our second Japanese entry into the Garrett International Drifting Cup, the current D1GP Champion, Masashi Yokoi!
Aside from his 2018 Japanese D1GP championship victory, Yokoi-san is a true legend in the sport of drifting through his work at MCR Factory. Yokoi has also been a fierce competitor in Formula Drift Japan and also Formula Drift USA where he took outright victory at Texas Motor Speedway in 2015.
Yokoi-san has confirmed he is currently nearing completion of his second Pro-level car at MCR Factory in Aichi, Japan and will be debuting the new vehicle this October exclusively at the Garrett International Drifting Cup, with full support of Team D Max.
“Of course I’m going to win! I think I can win,” says Yokoi-san, “I love Australia and whole WTAC event, I am really looking forward to running at such places. I have been to Australian events, and seeing the competition, I think I have to run quite seriously.”

He will be campaigning a 2JZ-powered Nissan S15 Silvia fitted with a Holinger transmission putting out around 1000HP with the assistance with a GTX4088R. The car also runs a Plazmaman throttle and surge tank.
“I am building a lighter car than ever before while also turning up the traction,” says Yokoi-san, “I would like to create a vehicle that gives me no trouble.”
“Having any top line Japanese driver compete is always on our wish list,” said WTAC CEO Ian Baker “But to have the current Japanese champion enter really is testament to the calibre of our event right here in Sydney, Australia. I also know that while Nakamura and Yokoi are good friends off the track, so to be able to put them up as arch rivals on track… we are in for one hell of a show!”
“Having a field of international champions like Yokoi take on our own home grown champions such as Beau Yates and Dale Campaign will guarantee some killer battles,” says WTAC Drift Operations Manager, Dan Mackie.
“We will have a larger field this year over 2 huge nights, featuring possibly our largest international driver line-up and more pool battles than last year – the battles will be insane!”
